At dif, we want to support grassroots and independent initiatives from motivated individuals and collectives looking to lend a hand to their close or at-large community.
YMA is our sister platform, they lead music tech/ education/ entertainment projects since 2012, and together with several partners, they decided to release a compilation – Soli Tunes, available on Bandcamp – with all earnings going to the Palestine Music Space to support budding Palestinian musicians.
While YMA pulled all the curation and logistics weight, and artists all the creative weight, dif supported this production to make sure the whole process was fair to all parties involved.
When working on a fully un-paid project, all parties must understand that cashing up at any point is not permitted, and that even when work is not paid, commitments must be honored in order not to shift one’s own duties to the next person in the chain – sadly social loafing is present both in paid and voluntary work, it is one of the main reasons for work-load and office politics imbalance which negatively affect marginalised workers first.
If you have questions about voluntary work organisation, whether any cultural worker or artist should ever work for no pay, or how to kick-start non-profit projects, feel free to write us!
